MacDonald is best remembered for his fairy tales and poetry, as well as his theological prose.

Considering E.T.A. Hoffmann's influence on this theological novel (see
Wolff, Golden Key pp.182-207), it is appropriate that it was
one of the 1st of MacDonald's books to be translated into German.
