Miller, Thomas, and [Miles] Birket Foster (illus.), COMMON WAYSIDE FLOWERS (London: Routledge Warne & Routledge, 1863).  Unstated second issue, 22 x 17.5cm (4to), in publisher's brown morocco-grain cloth w/multi-colour floral onlaid panels to covers & gilt decorations & title to covers & spine (all designed by Albert Warren, w/his gilt initials to covers), bevelled edges, a.e.g., pale yellow ep.s, [186] [viii] cardstock pp. w/tissue-guarded frontis, prelim titlepage & numerous illus. engraved in colours by Edmund Evans after Foster.  Printed by Edmund Evans, London.  Inscribed to recto of fr. ep.: "Charles E. Homer, July 1865."  Binding Very Good (extremities moderately bumped & worn); contents Good (lt.-to-moderate foxing, lt. tidemarks to lower gutters, & short closed tear to upper edge of pp.137-38).  McLean VPBB 53 (repr. in colour--"perhaps the most sensational of all the cut-out paper and gold blocking bindings"), Ray 239 ("thanks to Evans's brilliant coloring, the detailed engravings of flowers in this book are among Foster's best illustrations.
