Miller, Thomas, COMMON WAYSIDE FLOWERS (London: Routledge Warne & Routledge, 1860).  First edition, 22 x 17.5cm (4to), in publisher's brown morocco-grain cloth w/multi-colour floral panels to covers & gilt decorations & title to covers & spine (all designed by Albert Warren, w/his gilt initials to covers), bevelled edges, a.e.g., pale yellow ep.s w/binder's ticket (Bone & Son, Ball 17C) to rear pastedown, [i-iv] v [vi], [1-2] 3-184 [185-86] cardstock pp. (as in all copies the leaf following p.[56] is repositioned to serve as a prelim titlepage) w/24 illus. engraved in colours by Edmund Evans after Miles Birket Foster.  Printed by Edmund Evans, London.  With prev. owner's pencil inscr. & attached note to verso of fr. ep. stating from whom acquired, some bibliographical ref.s, & "Restored by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, Oct. 1967, £1-0-0."  Binding Very Good (spine & extremities moderately bumped & rubbed); contents Very Good (1st & final few leaves moderately foxed)--certainly better than most copies we've seen.  McLean 1974 53 (repr. in colour--"perhaps the most sensational of all the cut-out paper and gold blocking bindings"), Ray 239 ("thanks to Evans's brilliant coloring, the detailed engravings of flowers in this book are among Foster's best illustrations.
